Having 20 years experience with horses, with 10 years under her belt teaching and training, I began my life with horses doing a bit of everything. Hunt seat, western pleasure, sidesaddle, gymkhana, competitive trail…it took some serious exploring before I started to focus on the principles of classical dressage as what captivated me in world of horses. A year long intense internship with Phil and Orintha Silva of Ten Broeck Farm solidified the fact that I could train the rest of my life and still be fascinated by this endless and ageless style of training and riding. Participating in clinics and riding with trainers including Lenden Grey, Jane Hannigan, Claudia Tarlov, and others helps to keep me focused and working towards improving my own skills and knowledge.
My theories are grounded on the fact that there is nothing more important than the basics to help create a safe solid foundation from which to move up from. The ability for a rider to apply classical dressage concepts with common sense horse knowledge can improve any animals performance and enjoyment in its work. Although we are always striving to improve both students and horses, the motto “If it is not fun, you are not doing it right” sums up much of my beliefs.
Between lessons, camp, training, and bringing along my 4 yr old mare Piper I keep myself immersed in horses full time and am loving it.
